Taking Photographs Using Black and White Film
During this lesson we went into the studio with a Nikon camera loaded with 35mm black and white film. Our instructions were to take pictures of objects we had brought from home that would illustrate weight, shape, texture, tone, and size. We took a number of pictures, experimenting with lighting and composition. Getting the lighting right was the most difficult part, as we had never been in the studio before and were unfamiliar with studio lighting. Focusing the lens before taking the picture also proved a challenge, as I had always tended to use my camera on auto before starting this course. Not being able to see the results immediately was also frustrating, as we were not sure whether the pictures we had taken were correctly exposed and in focus. The chance to experiment in the studio, and being exposed to studio lighting for the first time was, however, extremely exciting, and I thoroughly enjoyed this task.
